Recipe: Homemade Body Butter
Fall is FINALLY here!!! Yay for knee high boots, sweatshirts, playing in the leaves, cool, crisp mornings and pumpkin flavored everything!!!! But, BOO to dry skin. I don't know about you, but my skin gets REALLY dry in the fall and winter months. A few weeks ago, I whipped up some homemade body butter in just a few easy steps & love how soft and smooth my skin has been.
Many of you ased for the recipe and how I did it, so here'a a step by step so that you can make your own. WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
1/2 cup shea butter (I ordered mine online, but you can also grab yours at Whole Foods or a similar store).
1/4 cup coconut oil (chances are you already have this in your pantry)
1/4 cup olive, sweet almond or jojoba oil
your favorite essential oils mixer (hand or stand mixer)
a big jar (or a few mini jars) to hold your butter once you're done
Something to note: I used RAW shea butter. It has a natural scent & sometimes when you use this, it may be harder to smell the essential oils. Same with the coconut oil. If you used unrefined coconut oil, your body butter will have a slight coconut scent. The same can be said for your liquid oil. Olive oil has a stronger scent (and color) as opposed to sweet almond or jojoba. STEP 1: melt your shea butter and coconut oil. You can do this in a double boiler or I just microwaved it.
STEP 2: once your shea butter and coconut oils are melted, add in your liquid oil (olive oil, sweet almond or jojoba)
STEP 3: transfer this mixture to your mixing bowl that you'll mix it in with your mixer. Put it in the refrigerator to harden (this could take 30-90 minutes depending on how much you melted your shea butter and coconut oil). The mixture should be a soft solid, not completely hardened.

STEP 4: start mixing and add in your essential oils as you go. You'll want to mix on a low speed at first and then gradually increase. Every few minutes, scrape the sides of your bowl to make sure everything mixes evenly. Mix time will probably be 10-15 minutes. Once you're mixture is light and fluffy, you know it's done. STEP 5: transfer to jars and refrigerate.

I usually let mine refrigerate for an hour or so and then you're good to go!!!
